Building Humans

Parenting has a PR problem.  Those who consciously object to taking part in the activity tend to talk about only what they perceive parenting would deprive them of.  "I can't imagine not being able to sleep in on Saturdays."  Practitioners, meanwhile, usually can't offer much assessment beyond their own parochial and very immediate circumstances ("On days I can get my kids to put on their damn jackets and shoes and get out the door in time for school, it's great."), probably owing to a lack of sleep on Saturdays.  What is missing from the narratives is just how intellectually rewarding and sheer fun raising a kid can be.
